July 20 How We Live Now

Here is our photo of the Café, Inn and Gift Shop where we work. The trailer we live in is off the picture frame to the right. This is Mile 56 on the Dalton Highway. Dan and I are working a lot but also having a lot of fun.

It is crazy to me that so much time has gone by since the blog was attended to so now I will try to fill in the blank spots on the blog! Starting with the folks we live and work with, here we go:

Sundance Visser – Top Camp Host aka Manager and a fantastic baker.
pix to come! John Bollinger, staff maintenance guy – and First Mate to Sundance and an amazing technician. He can fix anything from 40 year old ice makers to LAN’s.

Nick Gatz – evening cook extraordinaire who is from Waterville, Maine and plays mandolin. Dan and Nick have great discussions about music.

Darlette Thackery graduated from college in Glen River, down south Alaska, before coming to YRC and is planning to go to Italy before graduate school after she leaves here.

Audrey Bernier – our top kitchen cook/baker whose pies fly out the door faster than she can possibly make them. Audrey grew up in Hadley, Massachusetts. Small world.

Lacy Fosmore does everything here ‘cause she’s been in the camps in Coldfoot for a few years. A real veteran and a real fan of life in Alaska!

Bruce Davis is from Colorado and has stayed with us for ten weeks but is moving on to hike and play to his heart’s content. We will miss his humor and wit a lot!!!

Rebecca Brookshire – just got to Camp from Alabama this week and just in time to fill in for Bruce. She drew the cool pix of our camp front door below.

Here I am stretching to get the cold drinks in order. This is what fills in for yoga this summer.

Here is Dan in his shiny dish pit.

This is Geo – Sundance’s kittycat who came from the Fairbanks animal shelter about three weeks ago. Dan calls her Tippy-Toes. She will appear like clockwork about five minutes after you leave the kitchen door, like a plate ordered from the cafe. She is very cuddly and after she gets to know you will sit in your lap and purr as long as you want.

More to come!!
