6/17 Drove to Fairbanks in the morning and came home at night but the night isn't really night because the sun is perpetually in the north-west and is about at 7 pm Boston time. Absolutely terrifying driving back with the sun in our eyes, with switch-backs and inclines and declines where you can't see anything as you top the rise and trucks coming at you, in a borrowed car no less. Fairbanks is like Southbridge (which is like Fitchburg) only with cowboy hats.

This is 11pm coming back. The Ray Mtns. and those are trees in the front.

This is the Yukon River south of us from the top of the hill. I contrasted it a little to show the drama of it.

Getting home. This is 11 pm or so at night. One of the things we did was visit the Public Library (really nice place) for a Rockwell Kent print exhibit. Plus the library owns 3 paintings by him. Rockwell has a Monhegan Island connection, but he is remembered for his artistic forays into the Arctic Regions from Labrador thru Alaska.
